How big is a large cookie jar?

Large here means a gallon or more. Most of these jars are the wide-mouth glass gallon, about the size of a pickle jar at the deli counter, and they take a full batch of drop cookies with room for a hand to go in. The tall glass jar and the red tin go to a gallon and a half, and the wide-mouth glass jars from CATPOWER hold two and a half.

Measure the gap under your upper cabinets before you order. A gallon jar with its lid on stands taller than it looks in a photo, and the lid has to come off without hitting the cabinet. If the jar lives on a pantry shelf instead, the acrylic gallons are the light choice: they weigh a fraction of the glass ones when full.

Questions

Large cookie jars: what people ask

How many of your cookies fit in a large cookie jar?

It depends on the cookie more than the jar. A gallon jar holds a full batch of medium drop cookies stacked on their sides; thin crisp cookies take more room for the same weight because they do not pack. If you bake in double batches, look at the jars of a gallon and a half and up.

Is a gallon glass cookie jar too heavy for you to use every day?

Empty, a gallon glass jar is easy to move; full, it is a two-hand lift from a high shelf. If your jar has to come down from a cabinet every day, an acrylic gallon or a tin of the same size is lighter. On a counter, the weight of glass keeps the jar from sliding.
